First-Gen Faculty Advisory Council

To support the Institute’s goal of expanding access, First-Generation Student Initiatives has formed the First-Generation Faculty Advisory Council. This council will come together to discuss and create opportunities to enhance the quality of experience for first-generation and limited income students. Supported by the First-Generation Student Initiatives, the committee will set important goals that include:

• Collaborate with various departments on campus to provide faculty mentoring opportunities throughout the academic year for first-generation and limited income students.
• Raise awareness about the needs and experiences of first-generation and limited income students.
• Connect first-generation students with one another and with faculty to build community.
• Create an environment in the classroom for first-generation and limited income students that promotes lifelong learning, strengthen well-being, develop leadership, cultivate academic success, and foster retention and graduation.
