First-Gen Jackets Peer Mentoring Program
We’re excited to invite you to be part of the 2025–2026 First-Gen Jackets Peer Mentoring Program! Since Fall 2021, this program has been an integral part of Georgia Tech’s support network for first-generation college students. As a mentor, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with incoming first-gen students, offering guidance and encouragement as they transition to life at Georgia Tech—something you’ve successfully navigated yourself.
How the Program Works
Time Commitment:
- Begin reaching out to your mentee(s) in early August 2025, before the fall semester starts.
- Attend two required events:
- Peer Mentor Training (August 2025)
- Mentor/Mentee Kickoff Social (Welcome Week 2025)
- The formal mentoring period ends in April 2026, but you’re welcome to stay in touch with your mentee(s) beyond that.
- We recommend checking in with your mentee(s) at least once a month.
Matching Process
- Mentors and mentees complete a brief background survey.
- Our partner, Mentor Collective, uses your responses to match you with a mentee based on shared interests and what’s most important to the mentee.
- Mentees begin signing up in late July–early August 2025.
- Once matched, you and your mentee can decide how to stay in touch—via email, phone, text, video chat, or in person.
- Being a mentor is a meaningful way to support the success of first-generation students at Georgia Tech. You’ll create a space for authentic conversations, share valuable insights, and help build resilience through connection and community.
Want to see the impact mentoring can have? Check out this short video from real mentees to hear what they have to say about their mentors.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to firstgenprograms@gatech.edu or contact Mentor Collective at help@mentorcollective.org.
We hope you’ll join us in making a difference during the 2025-2026 academic year!
