GT 1000 Freshman Seminar

GT 1000 is Tech's freshman seminar course. The course is taught by academic faculty and university administrators with advanced degrees, and upper-class students volunteer to serve as Team Leaders (or TLs) in each class. TLs facilitate small groups within the class and offer mentoring, advice, and support to freshmen. Many students who have successfully completed GT 1000 report that the friendships that form with their fellow students and team leaders last well beyond the completion of the course.

The course meets weekly for one hour and covers topics critical to first-year student success. Examples include:

  • Academic success strategies (e.g. time management, study skills, academic advising)
  • Academic enrichment programs (co-op, study abroad, undergraduate research)
  • Leadership, community service, and involvement opportunities
  • Career and major exploration
  • Resume preparation
  • Team building skills
  • Oral presentation skills
  • Georgia Tech history and traditions

For twenty-five years, Tech has offered a freshman seminar course, and our data consistently show that successful students take this class. Please explore this website using the submenus on the left or right to learn more about the course and curriculum and how to register for it.
